While it's great to explore natural remedies, I believe that a holistic approach that includes both traditional and alternative medicine may be more beneficial in addressing menopause symptoms. At least, that's what my wife says.

Support Your Employees Going Through Menopause"Organizations that take employee well-being seriously realize early on that getting ahead of conditions like menopause reduces an incredible burden on their workforce and can improve the bottom line. Nearly two out of every five people experiencing menopause reported symptoms that interfered with their work performance or productivity each week. As a manager, how can you better support those employees? Hereโ€™s where to start.1. Ask questionsโ€”and listen. You might consider conducting a survey to gauge whether people on your team are experiencing menopause symptoms that interfere with their workโ€”and if so, what kind of support they need. You could also start a womenโ€™s health ERG, where employees going through menopause can openly share their menopause journeys, provide mutual support, and make recommendations for leadership.2. Build benefits. Some helpful benefits could include coverage for preventive screenings, visits to certified menopause specialists, and the costs associated with medication, hormone therapy, and other treatments to address symptoms.3. Raise internal awareness and reduce the stigma. When benefits are available and employees know about them, people experiencing menopause are more able to bring their best selves to the workplace. You can raise awareness by introducing training programs for all employees, including a toolkit focused on increasing understanding of menopause, reducing stigma, and providing guidance on supporting those who need it."This tip is adapted from"How Companies Can Support Employees Experiencing Menopause," by Bradley Schurman and Tamsen Fadal

I currently have my head buried in menopause research as we build on our support for colleagues who have experienced or will experience the menopause at some stage in life.It has shocked me how little I knew about the menopause and its effects so I wanted to share some of my learnings:โญ The menopause itself is a one-day event in which a person has not had a period for 12 months, leading up to this moment is the perimenopause in which people will experience some rather debilitating symptoms such as hot flushes, brain fog, acne and loss of sleepโญ In 2023 a study by SimplyHealth recorded that 23% of women have considered leaving their job due to menopause related symptoms, and 14% had a plan in place to hand in their notice (important note: the menopause also effects some trans and non-binary people too)โญ The new labour government is requiring firm's with more than 250 employees to have action plans in place for people who will go through the menopause (good!)โญ We have found that a large portion of our colleagues at Mills & Reeve have struggled to get support from their GP, often having to book multiple appointments and being given anti-depressants as their first and only option! What we are doing at ?โค๏ธ Menopause Champions - we are getting ready to launch our menopause champions at the firm who have been trained by Henpicked on how to support colleagues struggling with their symptomsโค๏ธSharing stories - we have collected stories from colleagues across the business ready to share with all staff to show just how difficult symptoms can be in the workplace and offer advice on how people can be alliesโค๏ธReviewing our policies - we are undergoing a review of our policies and manager guidance to ensure we have the most up to date information in place to ensure our colleagues are happy and healthy at workโค๏ธMenopause support group - We have a menopause support group that meets quarterly to offer peer-to-peer support with symptoms, life changes and navigating careers alongside menopauseโค๏ธOnline learning - we have a range of online resources available to colleagues that covers topics such as nutrition for menopause, sleep support, manager guidance and colleague spotlights which captures the life experiences of some of our staffWe have lots more in our plans such as male allyship awareness, manager training and intersectional learning around the menopause.Menopause shouldn't be a taboo, we should all have open and honest conversations about it to break down barriers and create inclusive spaces - the first step is always educating ourselves ๐ŸŽ“#menopause #menopauseintheworkplace #perimenopause

World Menopause DayItโ€™s about so much more than hot flushes!Over half the population will experience menopause in their lifetime.Despite this, many still struggle to recognise the signs and symptoms of perimenopause & menopause, leading to delayed support and treatment.I am passionate about spreading the word and reaching even more women who may not have recognised the invisible symptoms of menopause.Menopause can have a devastating impact on a woman's personal and professional life.It can be a time when you feel your confidence ebb away as quickly as the brain fog entersโ€ฆ.One of the contributing factors to this is a lack of knowledge. It's easy enough to miss the signs of perimenopause or menopause. Some think symptoms are the result of stress, or just a normal part of getting older.I believe itโ€™s time for women to have access to trusted menopause information, to help them seek out appropriate care and treatment early in their journey of change.I want to increase awareness of the many physical and psychological symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, and help more people join the dots.If you havenโ€™t already checked out Dr Louise Newson and her balance app please do it today.Itโ€™s never too early to learn about this inevitable part of a womanโ€™s life and it doesnโ€™t matter if you are male, female or how you identify, itโ€™s information that helps us all be more understanding and supportive.I am determined mine will be the last generation to navigate โ€œThe Changeโ€ without a road map.You donโ€™t know what you donโ€™t know right? You havenโ€™t been through the menopause before so unless you have done lots of research and reading in your 30โ€™s how would you possibly know what symptoms to become aware of that may be the start of perimenopause around your 40โ€™s particularly if itโ€™s never been spoken about in your family as itโ€™s still a bit tabooโ€ฆ.When you donโ€™t know the symptoms are connected to menopause itโ€™s easy to ignore them and think of them in isolation, you donโ€™t tend to link up the clues or notice your confidence levels dropping over time, you just get left with a sense that life could be better, that you are not quite as good as you once were with your organisational skills, that you feel, less confident in social situations for example.Check out all the helpful resources https://lnkd.in/eDiS98Fh#pausetotalk #midlifewomen #wellbeingcoach #happinesscomesfromwithin #thrivingnotsurviving

If you donโ€™t think menopause is a workplace-related concern, think again! โ—๏ธ1 in 10 women are leaving the workplace for menopause related reasons ๐Ÿ˜ฑโ—๏ธ50% of the population are going through, will go through, or have gone through menopauseFollowing Unleashedโ€™s Menopause post yesterday, I deliberated overnight as to whether or not to share my own experience. The irony of that is, of course, that at Unleashed we say that this topic shouldnโ€™t be tabooโ€ฆ so why do I feel so hesitant in sharing?Well, I guess it feels really personal โ€ฆ but knowing that it affects half of the population and knowing that so many women are so impacted they leave work as a result, well ultimately, it isnโ€™t that personal after all!So, Iโ€™ve decided to take the leap and share. Hopefully this will help to highlight the impact in the workplace to all humans and not just those that go through menopause.๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จIโ€™m 45 and I started (peri) menopause last year...The symptoms I suffered were almost impossible to handle - and being a single mum and a business leader suddenly felt almost impossible to cope with.Iโ€™m sharing the list below because still (see the post from Unleashed) not enough people understand or know the symptoms associated with menopausing.Iโ€™ve started HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) and it has felt life changing - yet (and the stats differ slightly) there are less than 15% of us that could be on HRT that actually are (for a number of different reasons). My symptoms did not include hot flushes (which is the main one that people shout about). The ones that I suffered from that impacted me at work the most were โ€ฆโœ… loss of concentrationโœ… low moodโœ… sleepless nightsโœ… brain fogโœ… lack of energyโœ… severe anxietyโœ… crying spellsโœ… no longer feeling I knew who I wasโ€ฆ and that isnโ€™t even the ones that were more physically impactful such as night sweats, brittle nails, bloating, dry hair + hair loss, dry skin, breast pain, changes in body shape, multiple UTIโ€™s, and significant out of cycle bleeding. Quite a list ๐Ÿ™ƒDonโ€™t suffer in silence and donโ€™t let it stop you from being the incredible, strong person that you are, both inside and outside of work. ๐Ÿ’ฅ
